Modifying Modular PSU Cables (additional connector)

I’m in the middle of planning a build but I’m struggling to find a suitable power supply. Due to an exhaust fan in the roof of the chassis I only have room for a PSU that is no more than 16cm in length. As I want a modular PSU this means that I also need the cable connectors at the bottom of the PSU so as not to be obscured by the exhaust fan.

One that fits all my requirements, bar one, is the NZXT HALE82-650-M. The one thing it’s missing is four SATA connectors on a single modular cable (the PSU comes with two cables each with three connectors). I want to run an optical drive, SSD and SATA HD but I require a single molex connector for the reobus built into the cases front panel (controls two 80mm fans). I was hoping to find one with four connectors so that I could use an adapter to change it that of a molex and do away with needing to plug in another modular cable of five for a solitary molex connector.

After spending a number of hours (okay, many, many, many hours) researching various power supplies I came across a 90 Degree SATA Power Connector and In Line Cap. As the NZXT HALE82-650-M comes with flat ribbon-esque modular cables can I just carefully separate each wire and attach one of the above connectors or am I inviting impending doom?

Appreciate any and all input!

Cheers!

I thought that was likely the case but it's always nice to hear it from someone more knowledgeable than yourself.

I can't believe the last time I was here was in 2004!
