Thanks to you Overclockers, I'm once again experiencing FF7, this time off the Steam platform. I'm familiar with some gaming mods already. The Sims e.g. more body modifiers, building alterations, more camera options. Then there's WoW e.g. different UIs / menus, quest helper, different map styles, raid organiser and so on.

The reason why I'm a bit cautious on FF7 is because I'm new to the Steam client. How do mods manifest in FF7? What are the favoured mods amongst you Overclockers? What happens if you need to reformat? I think the client will remember what games I own and will re-download them for me. A bit like Amazon MP3 remembering what MP3s you've bought from the store for re-syncing. Presumably it won't remember what mods I have though and therefore best to keep copies of their install files on my hard disk?

I'm fairly technical, but using an app store outside of mobiles phones is new to me, in which Steam pretty much is.

Thanks :-)

In relation to Steam as an 'App Store' you are correct. Your Steam Account is tied to your games so you can download them as often as you like should you format or change computers.

As for Mods. They should work the same as the title outside of Steam. Steam is simply the delivery platform so it will just depend on where you install the mod to.

Steam does come with 'Steam Workshop' which supports some selected games and allows mods to be selected and installed from within Steam itself. I don't know if Steam will remember these mods for games you've installed.

For non - Steam Workshop mods. I expect you can follow the mod instructions, but yes it would make sense to keep a copy separately of any mods you download should you need to re-install in the future.
