Hi,

I'm currently considering a new psu, as mine is getting rather noisy, sometimes louder than my tv. Mine is about 7-8 years old. My psu is - OCZ GameXStream 850W PSU - http://www.bjorn3d.com/2007/05/ocz-gamexstream-850-watt/

My PC spec is:
NZXT Guardian 921 Tower Case
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 4GB
GIGABYTE G1.SNIPER Z87
KINGSTON HyperX 8GB (2X4GB) 2400
Western Digital 500GB HD
Samsung 24X Internal DVD Writer with SATA

I would prefer a full modular psu as i know with my current one, there is so many cables that are not needed but i am unsure as to which one i should actually buy.

Everything inside my pc is molex connected but it seems these connectors have changed over time or i am just not up to speed on anything now!

Any help or advice given would be grateful. If you need further infor, ation, let me know.

Phil

Hi and welcome to the forums. :)

A good quality 550w psu is more than enough for your system even with overclocking so here is a selection of 550-650w units for you to consider:-

My basket at Overclockers UK:

The Superflower units are both single 12v rail designs with the 550w being able to deliver the whole of it's 550w on the 12v rail while the 650w version can deliver 649w on it's 12v rail. Both have 5 year warranties. Be warned that both of these units have bright white leds where you plug the cables in and they cannot be turned off.

The EVGA units are built by Seasonic and once again are both single 12v rail units. The 550w version has a 540w 12v rail while the 650w version has a 648w 12v rail. Both have a 5 year warranty.

The XFX units are also Seasonic built and are both single 12v rail designs. The 550w version has a 540w 12v rail while the 650w version has a 648w 12v rail. Both units once again have a 5 year warranty.

EVGA G2 650w - Basically a Superflower Leadex gold with a different fan, no leds and a longer warranty. Single 650w 12v rail, fully modular and a 7 year warranty.

Other units worth checking out but not available from OCUK due to being out of stock or simply not sold here are:-

EVGA G2 550w - Basically a Superflower Leadex gold with a different fan, no leds and a longer warranty. Single 550w 12v rail, fully modular and a 7 year warranty.

EVGA GQ 650w - FSP built semi-modular unit with a single 12v rail of 650w and a 5 year warranty.

If it were me I would be tracking down a EVGA G2 as they are cracking units and argueably one of the best platforms currently around.

Hi,

Thanks for the fast reply.

Sorry if i am being stupid here but as most of my parts are connected using the 4 pin molex connectors, including my case fans (not sure if they need to be or not, i'm guessing i can connect them to the motherboard using the 3 pin connector?) are all the ones you mentioned able to connect using the molex connectors?

The modular psu's are all new to me.

Ideally you want the fans connected to the headers on the motherboard rather than connected to the psu and running flat out all the time. If your fan's only have a molex connector then yes, those psu's come with the relevant cables. If you click on the links to each psu then you can see what cables they come with in the descriptions.
