This maybe just me as I'm a bit bored this evening, but do you end up buying a modular PSU, only to find out you use 99% of the cables anyway?

I realised this when I installed a modular the other day. Ended up using nearly all of them. Annoying when you think you have gotten away with just the 3 molex connectors, then find out you have left one unplugged so have to use another cable with another 3 molex connectors on it.

Just me?

Yep, two pc's. Both have modular psu's, and both have sli gpu's in them. Certainly adds up to cable usage.

very much agree with the op and with a case like the 800d it wouldnt make any difference having all the cables attatched anyway

I have a corsair hx 850 in the rig in sig, looks pretty tidy, my second x58 rig uses an antec true power 750w, much nicer cabling on the antec. The corsair cables are pretty stiff and hard to route. Im gonna try to hide as many as possible and use pre braided extensions.

I thought it was because if the PSU became faulty you can just swap that sucker out for a new 'en? Easy with a modular PSU?

The advantage of a modular psu is you can chose the colour of your cables. Pretty important if you're going for a theme or style.

Theres a few modular psu's were all cables are removable, even the main 24 pin atx. Corsair ax series being one. On the two i have, the 24, 8 and two of the pcie connectors are hard wired.

but buying a modular psu outweighs the price of a cheap case does it not?

Kind of true yeah. I like modular PSUs because I don't have that much stuff in my system (two HDDs, 1 GPU and 1 disc drive, and that's it). So I have quite a lot of spare cables. Especially since I have an AX-750 which I got just in case I decided to go SLI/Xfire in the future.

Which I won't so it was a waste of money tbh.
