Molex Splitter for powering GPU

Hey,

I don't actually have enough connectors off my psu to power my GPU so I have to use a molex splitter to give me the extra cable to power it. Is this safe/stable? and do both molex have to be plugged into the 6 pin to GPU or would I be able to get away with just the one instead of using the molex splitter?

Thanks

What are your full system specs?

If the PSU is up to running the GFX card, most of the time they have the right connectors, but not always, especially if it's an older model. 2x Molex to 6-pin is safe if the PSU has enough power. I wouldn't use just one molex, that would probably cause issues and certainly be inadvisable.

I'm running a Molex Splitter for one of the connectors with my Corsair 520HX PSU. it's fine. As long as you have both ends plugged into a Molex it'll get the required voltage is needs.

I'm not very familiar with that brand of PSU, how much did it cost? From what I can see, they're not brilliant quality, so 550W of power may be very optimistic. I think the HD5770 has a recommended PSU rating of about 500W and 40A on the 12v rails. You'll need to check the exact specs of that PSU you have. I strongly suspect it's not up to the task, certainly if it doesn't have the 6-pin already, that should be a good indication as I said above.
