Hi my first mini build, would appreciate your advice, I have read through a lot of threads and this build is not for PC gaming:

I have a standard sized psu, a keyboard, mouse, an optical drive and OS (W7)

I would like a quality mini case, I like lian li but I don't know about the mini cases so will have a read about any you recommend.

They don't need more than 60gb for a hard drive so I would consider a ssd or a regular 500gb hdd
Onboard graphics
Cpu with quiet fan
mb
wireless
24" screen

This is to replace my M&D's PC, they look at pictures, email and surf the net, play solitaire (Mum).

If they could watch a video at 1900x1200 that would be pro

They can use sound off the screen or headphones which they have.

I have thought of a laptop but they pref a desktop and W8 is out soon anyhow.

Many thanks in advance fellas

I fancy the Intel path
Got a bigger SSD for less
I can use 1333 memory with i3

I assume I will need the external cd drive for loading my W7 OS

Plus I get the fun (read hours of frustration) of building it!

Look forward to some feedback, thanks

Cheers pod

i have just built a similar system into this case and can confirm it is a good bit of kit. I went for slightly more features and newer technology though.

Extremely fast system and easy to build too. The case is well built and doesn't look too bad. took me an hour to build it as i'm a cable management freak!

Hi J81 can you post the spec or even better any pics? Was it a gaming rig?

I am going to build shortly, can't wait! I also had not appreciated that there was mini and micro itx!

spec as follows:

Asrock H67M-ITX/HT. Onboard sata 3, usb 3.0 and wireless b/g/n. It also has 7.1HD audio.
8gb corsair vengeance LP memory
intel i3 2125 3.3ghz processor
128gb samsung 830 SSD.

By going for the 2125 cpu you get HD3000 graphics instead of HD2000. The system is fast. It will boot into windows 7 64bit in 15sec from power on.

The antec case has room for 2 x 2.5" hard drives. there is no room for expansion cards/graphics on this case. the board however has a full pci express 16x slot on it.

Cost me approx £350 to build. gonna strap it to the back of a 27" monitor using the vesa mount.

I can post pics if you need them.

Very nice. Good SSD.

Yikes, built the box, but can't manage to install W7!

I have had a look in bios, I made a bootable usb with W7 on, I have also put the contents of the motherboard dvd on that usb too.

The OS installation starts, I see the SSD, I find one driver that is installed, I partition the SSD but I can't get past that point.

Says
'Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system'

I am stuck there, any pointers appreciated, thanks

Here is the finished beast in case your thinking of using the fantastic Antec case too!
