....a car, for £1500 or under. Ideally I want to spend about £1300, leaving some cash free in case of problems.

I've been looking at the following: (I currently drive a 2.5 V6 Vectra B)

Vectra DTI
Hyundai Coupe
Ford Focus
406
Megane Coupe (I know, I know)

What else would people recommend?

stay away from anything french.

lol, I used to drive a 306 and it was a nice little motor, a little un-reliable and a massive oil burner though!

So, if we take out the Megane and the 406 ......

That just leaves the Vectra and the Hyundai to be removed from the list.

The vectra for being downright crap, and the hyundai for being one of the most offensive to look at cars ever.

Focus it is then. Or a Mondeo.

lol, I don't mind the Vectra, and I think the Hyundai looks quite good, aside from being a bit girly which was the only thing that was putting me off.

I wouldn't mind a Focus, but its right at the top of my budget range.

I hate the way the Mondeo looks, so I don't think thats an option :)

Hmmm, some more I am considering .....

Seat Ibiza
Audi A4

Could they be any more different

What exactly are you looking for from a car, because at present it just seems that so long as one is available within budget "it will do". And that certainly isn't the best way to shop for a car. Hell, you could get a perodua or a kia for that money, can they be put on your shortlist too? :p

Also, £1300-£1500 is not Audi A4 money, any example you get for this will be leggy/ropey, and will cost an arm and a leg to put right when (not if) it goes wrong. Prestige brands and cheap do not mix.

So do you have £1500+ the vectra to trade in to spend? or are you buying a second car? Depending on the miles/age ** vectra's probably worth about the same as you have to spend.
Do you want big/small.. sporty/sensible?

I don't like the look of the Audi A4 really anyway, its a bit bland to be honest and your quite right regarding the pricing.

I wouldn't say that I am all over the shop regarding my choices, just I am quite particular about what I want.

I want it to be economical, but still have some 'pep' and to be as stylish as it can be for the budget. Then again style is a very personal thing, what I like, someone else will hate.

I've always driven quite powerful cars, so I will miss the power, but I need to save on fuel and insurance costs.

I'm definately considering the Ibiza at the moment, quite like its styling.

Just reading about it on Parkers atm.

I'll have around £1500 cash to spend, my Vectra will be sold hopefully within the next week.

I'm looking to buy a second hand car, that has some sportyness but at the same time is reasonably economical.

As per my last post, I'm looking seriously at the Seat Ibiza at the moment.
