Hi all.

Im guessing fox will be in here at some point :D

Ive just taken delivery of a mondeo until I get my insignia.

Can anyone tell me if the button on the right should actually do something? It doesnt do anything when I press it.

Well thats what I thought, but there doesnt seem to be. They wouldnt have fitted the button if it didnt do anything would they?

In the estate passat that I drive at work it enables / disables the rear parking sensor, if you whack it into reserve near a surface behind you does the button light up or do you hear any beeping at all?

Usually the rear ones are permanently on though, and you'd want to disable them (Button would be labelled OFF like the traction control one next to it), if you were towing something for example?

Ive tried it in reverse, and nothing happened, but wasnt near anything at the time. What sort of distance would it be?

Well it is on by default but a button labelled exactly the same as that turns it off and pressing it again will turn it back on.

If it was on by default and you press the button to turn it off, then the button will be labelled "OFF", like the traction control button next to it, shirley?

erm whats a PDC?

Park Distance Control - Another silly BMW acronym, like LCI  :D

Oh ok cool, so it should have the parking sensor then. Will have to try reversing up to a wall and hope I dont hit it

On my Audi, the same button was for activating the front parking sensors. The rears came on automatically when the car was put into reverse

It's a toggle switch for the parking sensors (front & rear).

When you engage reverse the front & rear parking sensors will be activated automatically and will disengage when you do one of three things:
1. Switch of the engine
2. Exceed a certain speed (I think 10mph but not sure)
3. Press that button

If the parking sensors are NOT activated (i.e. you haven't engaged reverse) and you press this button it will turn them on (useful when you want to pull up close to a parked vehicle / wall / other obstruction in front of you.

Might not even have the sensors, just the button. Some car manufacturers like to include buttons that don't actually do anything on certain models. My parents astra (design) for example, has a button labelled "bc", this is meant to be a trip computer, press the button and it just displays "no function" on the display.

Ive been looking around online about this and it seems that if we have the 3 line lcd display (which we do) vauxhall need to activate it, called them up and according to them we need another add in board that costs a couple of hundred quid. Ive seen some people get it activated without the board using a diagnostics computer so i might enquire about this when it goes for its service next month.
