Mondeo doesn't start first time....

Hi,

Got a nice new issue with my dying Mondeo and could use some ideas on what's wrong.

On turning the key the engine doesn't start first time - turning it back and then on again and it sometimes starts. Most of the time I have to try that 3 times before it'll burst into life.

Ideas?

It's a 2.0TDCi which is dying of DMF failure - could it be starter motor related?

Does it turnover and not fire - or just do nothing at all?

Isn't one of the signs of DMF failure iron filings clogging up the starter motor? Probably this!

Absolutely nothing, no clicking or anything similar - shall try with the door open though....might hear something new

A failing DMF can cause the starter motor to fail, though more normally you might expect to hear a click from the starter solenoid as it tries (and fails) to engage the starter pinion with the flywheel.

If it blows up tomorrow the cheapest thing I can find

However I have been longing after a CTR so saving with that in mind

(Although I've taken a fancy to some of the X Type Jags too....)
