Are you trying to sell?

No?

Then it doesn't matter how much its worth, all that matters is how much it would cost to replace. It is unlikely you can replace it for the cost of the repair bill. Therefore, repair it.
But it's hassle to get it sorted when you've got a life to lead. He has to dress up as Auntie Von at the weekends for a start, plus he's busy answering all our problems. Speaking of which, when's your next agony aunt session fell? ;)

Edit, having said that... never mind :D

They sure it wasnt the DMF? The shrapnel from it gets into the starter and knackers them, if you catch it early they can just be cleaned up. Just you wont want to have to buy another starter a few months down the line

In what way is taking your car/getting the AA to tow your car to the local garage and saying 'Please fix' before driving off in their courtesy car more hassle 'when you've got a life to lead' than scrapping the car/selling it spares or repairs and then going out to find another one to buy

This life you lead, is it on another planet? :p

2l TDDi, pretty basic spec but I don't know for sure.

It is the old Transit engine in it I believe before the TDCi became standard.

In the Mk3 Mondeo it's pretty much the same engine as the 2L TDCi, except it has mechanical injection (albeit electronically controlled) rather than common rail. Far, far better than the nasty old Endura D/DE/DI lumps used on the older Mondeos.

I drive an 06 Mondeo 2.2 Titanium x. Had 2ltr TDCI before that 02 plate; both in black!

Nice motors, but thinking of something different next time i buy.
