Mondeo mk4 light upgrades

Thing is most people go the other way round, fitting h9s instead of h11s, as the h9 bulbs are a better spec like for like (h11 is 1350 lumens, h9 is 2100). I could fit a nightbreaker h11 and see if it's better than the Philips blue vision h9s I have at the moment but the bulb tech would have to make a big difference to make a h11 better than the h9...

Ahh its that way round is it? I thought the H11 was the better one! :(

Yup the h9 is 65w, the h11 is 55w.

I've had a hid kit fitted to the low beam for a while (replacing the h7s, in projectors), but the beam pattern is totally rubbish, it's bright in front of the car but the light throw further down the road is very poor. Going back to normal bulbs now, I'm just annoyed at the lack of choice for h9 as I can't have matched types unless I compromise somewhere. Ideally I'd go for Philips extreme plus all round, I've had these in other cars and always found them excellent plus they seem to last better than the nightbreakers.

Mk4 Mondeo headlights are shocking,

although yours should at least have projector lenses I would imagine

Currently running Philips xtremes in my mk4 mondy, certainly a decent improvement

How do you know if they're projector lenses?

They are definitely motorised and move left and right with the wheel when driving

Mk4.5 Titanium X here with the same type headlights, +130% bulbs made quite a substantial difference, headlights were terrible before and now they're just about OK. Headlights just aren't great on the MK4 short of xenons.

Make sure you're not an idiot like me, do you have the cornering lights inside the headlight unit where you would expect the sidelights to be? Having never looked properly I assumed it was the fog lights which were lighting up while cornering, turns out to be an H1 bulb in the corner of the headlight unit. I guess if you have the Tit X with the DLRs like mine you won't actually have a sidelight bulb, if you do I could sell you 2 which I bought and have no use for :D.

Edit: I got I assume to be the same deal from Amazon, H1 Philips +130% full beams are also way better than stock.

What are the issues if you fit an 80w instead of a 55w? i assume not being legal being one, but what about wiring etc?
For the record, i havent done this, just asking. i too mave a mk4 mondeo and the lights are shocking.

Been looking at my Noble recently and one of the issues was it had a headlight out. Took it apart and found some genuis had fitted 80/100w bulbs, this has caused the bulb holder to literally melt and I've had to buy new bulb holders to solder in (along with new bulbs)

In short, I wouldn't do it ;)

I have some Philips +130% waiting to go in when I next feel the need to remove half the skin on my fingers.

Only concern is the quoted 450h lifespan, using them at the moment for nearly 3h per day in the dark that's not going to last too long.

My Extreme Vision lamps (H4) conked out after about 9 months use. I bought some Osram Nightbreakers to replace them but they are noticeably poorer than the Philips lamps which is disappointing.
