Seeing as a lot of people on here love mondeos I was hoping you could help sort my dads. He has just bought a bargain 2.0 R Reg Ghia for £200 to keep him occupied was his excuse. However the speedo is not working :/ He has taken it a apart and says its all electrical at the back of the clocks, I dont know how true this is? He also says that the fuel gauge flickers sometimes and the speedo will work for a few seconds.

Any ideas guys?

(BTW I used to slate these cars, but after a quick drive in it last night, they are very nice to drive compared to my derve 306  )

All mk2 Mondeos will have an electronic driven dash, without a cable-driven speedo. All I can suggest is make sure the contacts on the two long plugs on the back of the instrument cluster are in good condition (not corroded) and firmly plugged in. You might also need to bend the springy metal contacts on the plugs so that they mate correctly. This should probably fix it, seeing as its an intermittant fault which affects not only the speedo but the petrol gauge, unless you're unlucky enough for them to have both gone, with the same problem.
