Mondeo Problem

My old man has just phoned me saying he has broken down.

The car is a 2004 Mondeo TDCI with 24k on it.

He said the car idled ok but when he tried to drive it a noise like "rushing air" or having the interior blower going full blast.

I wondered if it is some kind of induction leak being Turbo?

Anyone know of any known problems that sound like this with this type of car?

Hmmm could be a turbo hose... say the one that goes from the turbo to the inlet manifold.

Has he checked under the bonnet?

Actually, saying that, I doubt he'll be able to see anything under there... stupid plastic engine covers.

Yep on a 2 year old car it should still be covered by warranty, plus is there not a Ford Assist recovery package like most decent manufacturers have?

It does sound like there is a leak or a decoupled hose in the turbo system, a loud whooshing noise is the sort of noise you'd hear if the Divertor valve fell off or a hose split.

Sounds turbo related.

The turbo in my Golf made a screaming noise from the bearings when one of the rotor fins snapped. Sounds like a gasket has given way on your dad's one - will be covered under warrantee anyway.

Intercooler hose blown off, its secured by jubilee clips. Should be easy to fix insitu with a screwdriver

I *think* the recovery is only for 1 year.

Spot on.

Dealer fixed it free of charge without any need for warranty claims.

Good service is so rare nowadays.
