purchased a 51 plate 2L Mondeo Ghia this week and twice in the lastcouple of days I have noticed the rev's going up/down at ilde! 1st time it was only moving 50revs or so, then it went back to a normal smooth idle.

Tonight, I started the car and it was idling fine, with 20 secs I noticed the rev counter moving slighty I could hear/feel the engine change, then the revs began going up and down from around 750-1000 rpm.... 10 seconds late it went back to normal!

any ideas?

When your engine is cold it will rev slightly higher to help get the engine up to temperature. It will also rev higher if there is additional load on the engine for ancillary components. For instance, when I start my Focus from cold, it will idle at about 1100 revs until its up to operating temp, before dropping back to it's normal 750RPM idle. If the air-con comp0ressor kicks in, it might raise slightly to compensate for the extra load required. Doesn't sound like anything to worry about.
