any1 know wat additives best for my mk3 duratec 2.0 petrol as it sounds like i have a clicky tappet or lifter and wat oil been told slick 50 gud shud i use a thicker oil?

If you have a full keyboard in front of you, please use it. Txt mks u lk vry stpd ok?

Do not use Slick 50, it's garbage. Use the grade of oil the ford recommend for you car, a thicker oil is quite likely to cause more problems with the followers.

Is the car due an oil change?

I second the swirl flap diagnosis.

I've had to remove them on a couple of friends cars - think it mainly relates to pre 2004 cars. Although they're fine on my wifes 83k 2001 Ghia X.

its not the dreaded butterfly swirl thats tapping its in the engine its only a slight tapping noise

So you've had a look at the butterfly spindle then?

so if slick 50 is rubbish wats best?

There are NO good oil additives. If it's making an unusual tapping noise then something is mechanically wrong. Live with it or investigate by removing parts and checking their condition.

the duratec 2litre is a very tappy + noisy engine, i wouldn't really worry about it unless its got much worse since you've owned it.

You're low on oil, I can guarantee it. Using anything other than the correct grade of oil in a Zetec/Duratec will cause more problems so don't be tempted by additives or thinker oil.

can the butterflys be removed if its them that are tapping?? im going to get the correct oil from ford

according to those links yes, they can be removed, but you will be better off getting it fixed properly. I doubt it is these though, but without looking no one knows.

Im sure its just the noisy nature of this engine design, probably just the tappets. All FiestaST's (same engine) make the noise. Never been near a running Mondeo 2litre.
