Mondeo Trip Computer Problem

The trip computer in my dads Mondeo has gone a bit weird. On the way home he was on the fuel warning and the trip computer was saying he had 42 miles left, so he fills it up and drives the 4 miles home and the trip computer was showing 38 miles remaining and the fuel light was still on dispite the fuel guage reading full

We've had a play with it, resetting the fuel consumption and trip speed readouts but to no avail. Its under warrenty so its not a big problem just wondered if there was anything else we should try befre it goes back to the dealer?

Thanks.

The only thing I can think of is to disconnect the battery for like an hour or something to reset the ECU?

Not sure if that actually resets it because each ECU is different. Hopefully some Mondeo bods will answer that.

The fuel light is connected to the level sensor in the on the sender in the tank, might have to check that out, sounds like the sender is playing silly beggars!

Would the sender for the fuel guage and the trip computer be different as the fuel guage is working fine and showing full, its just the trip computer and fuel light that are playing up?

The same thing happend to me recently, my warning light was on and the trip computer was telling me I had enough fuel for over 50 miles which I knew was wrong as the needle was almost on the empty line, my mate also who has an ST200 has had the same thing happen to him, in both our cases it was resolved by filling up and reseting the trip computer, been sound ever since.
