I've had an annoying squeak from the rear suspension on the Volvo (2008 XC70) for a while now and I've finally got around to getting it up in the air to work out where it's coming from. One of the trailing arm bushes is knackered.

My research so far suggests that it's the same part as on the mk4 Mondeo and that replacement is fairly common and is straightforward with the appropriate tool however I'm still fairly new to buying parts for 'common' cars and the array of various 3rd party brands. I've seen most of the names posted up on here over the years however I'm not sure which brands are cheap rubbish and which are reputable, given the large number of Mondeo fan boys on here anyone care to recommend the best option for this particular part?

Priced up a genuine part? Can't beat them in terms of quality.

Edit: they're not the nicest of things to replace either.

Cheers, years of dealing with old Toyotas has conditioned me to expect genuine parts to be daft money. Turns out these are sensibly priced so have bought genuine Ford ones for both sides and the tool to fit them in situ.

I work for Ford and fit them at least once a week usually but had no idea what they cost lol. But generally Ford stuff like that isn't too expensive generally.

Its usually a 2 man job holding the tool in position. I think it's slightly harder on a Volvo too as the trailing arm doesn't drop down as far from memory. But it's usually a case of unbolting the bush, unclipped all the brake pipes and abs wires, and unbolt one of the lower arms to let the whole thing swing down.

My 2012 XC70 had the trailing arm bushes go at about 65k miles. Had them replaced at a Volvo specialist who recommended using the Ford version. They were cheaper and a slightly different shape meaning that water didn't collect in them meaning they would t be susceptible to the problem...or so he said.

But yeah, he said it's the same part as the Mondeo.

Need to get both of these done on my S-Max as they're looking a bit knackered. Not something I'm going to attempt myself so although I now know the parts are cheap, what would I likely be looking at in terms of cost to get a garage to do it? There's a decent Ford specialist nearby that I'll get in touch with soon but it'd be good to get a rough idea.

Probably about 1.5 hours for both, so a good 150 in labour plus parts, about the 200 mark all in I guess?

I use the Sealey VSE4784 (they have to be pressed in) as I have a few cars with these, took 20mins a side with this.
Didnt even have to remove the wheels, just unbolt the back end, it was a bit tight so without a lift you may have to jack it up.
