I first came across them after seeing a post by Robert Downey Junior on Facebook linking to Hero Complex Gallery.

I looked on there and bought a few but i have since realized what a massive following it has. It seems to range from Films through to Music/Gig posters and into general Art.

Some of the artwork is just amazing and the price some of the older art work is fetching is impressive.

such as

I am still trying to understand how the licensing works for a lot of them?

not quite sure - I had assuemd that most of the artists were producing only a few of each and it was too small an industry for anyone to bother with

dunno if they can maybe claim to be doing some sort of parody of the brand to get round copyright/fair use etc..

I know Lucas can be quite strict about copyright so maybe they do have permissions

some of the olly moss stuff is v.good

Pop culture prints.

Hmmm, love hate relationship with them.

I'd love to have them but it also feels weird to pay so much money for a "poster". If it was actual hand painted I would be more than happy to hand over money.

Never been lucky enough to get prints on Mondo at release, but I did manage to get hold of the set of four coloured prints on Bottleneck of Marko Manev - http://www.bottleneckgallery.com/co...roducts/marko-manev-star-wars-set-of-4-prints

Within 30 minutes they were already on eBay for triple the price. Bloody vultures :@

I'd quite like this:

the black and white version is available elsewhere for like double the original price

actually, even worse, there are even people on e-bay 're-selling' stuff at double the price that hasn't actually sold out yet...

for example there is a Silence of the Lambs one on bottleneck gallery for $50, still available, being sold on e-bay for $109

No way, for me anyway.

I can see why people like it though, it's a movie that they resonate with and it is something unique* - Unique to a limit of 50+ !

Saying all that, I do like this as I love this movie trilogy, and it's not something people will normally buy (Star Wars, Tarantino stuff)

well star wars is always going to be a popular theme for this sort of thing

there are a couple of blade runner ones I'd quite like

Star Wars demographic are likely to be the kind of people who collect all things Star Wars related, mugs, key rings, lego, T-shirts, it's universe is also very rich in character, location and themes so it's a great source material to draw inspiration from and a real money spinner.

I think the second problem is to hang it, i am the kind of person who go and spend like £100 on a frame, which feels silly for a poster but then again, you want to make it look its best as well.

Yea Ive discovered what a massive range of pricing and quality there is with frames.

I am getting some done at Smart Gallery in Red Brick Mills in Batley. Not cheap but there excellent.

I only have 1 of these things, which is why I hate to be drawn into buying more. Its an officially licensed limited Tomb Raider prints signed by the Art Director/Artist of the game. The print was like £25 but the frame cost me £200 + , it is totally bespoke, I picked the frame/wood, the colour card/mount round it, you can see it is double mount, even the texture of that card.

Mondo prints are nice but there are plenty of other places that sell incredible artwork that don't actively promote forced exclusivity.

Creating a popular product then only releasing 50 at a time (of an item that can literally be reproduced instantly at the click of a button for no cost) to force prices up is just capitalism at it's worst. That and the only people who get to buy them are the script sharks who then tout them on Ebay for a 500% markup.

As i said, they're lovely work, but i'd much rather buy elsewhere.

hmmm, first time seeing those. I quite like them but the prices are stupid considering they are only prints and lots are made.
might as well find the image and get it professionally printed yourself.
