My boss has asked me to have alook around for the fastest laptop around, he wants it for 3d walkthroughs in realtime with 3d Studio Viz for client presentations.

However, he doesn't want it to look to.....well, tacky (eg Dell xps).

Ideas gents?

Take a look at the Toshiba Qosmio G40-108

Its a very flash laptop in terms of looks and performance. 17" screen too :) Its around £2k i think.

None of the shots or clips of the xps give it any justice. It looks astonishing in the flesh.

Does he need professional (quadro / firegl) video cards or will consumer desktop cards do?

If we are talking pure raw power, look at the eurocom/sager/hypersonic range. They all do a system that uses desktop and laptop hardware to create a monster of a machine, the chassis is a well made oem one that get a bit of branding so they are all the same.
If you don't need that much power then the dell precision range are rock solid performers.

another vote for the dell precision here, definately more corporate image and mine is still speeding along nicely with a t7400, 4 gig ram and a quadro fx2500m, reckon you can pick one up with a t7600 on outlet for around £1200 plus vat atm, cheaper ones to be had @ auction.
