Chaps/Chapesses,

I have got £2100 available to build a new system. The system will be used for mainly gaming, video editing, interweb, & Microsoft apps (Excel, Word, etc.) and must include a 21" (or more) monitor.

I am a stickler for the "latest and greatest", so I DEMAND that it is a Core i7 system, with at least one 4870 X2.

My main problem has been trying to decide which type of storage is best (by best I mean quickest for the budget). I only need a maximum of 300GB at one time so would be grateful if I could have your opinions on what I should go for: HDD, SAS, or SSD. In RAID 0, 1, etc.

So, apart from a 21" (or more) monitor, I do not need any peripherals, just a sweet, fast, beast of a tower.

SPEC ME!! (or not).

(Also, do OcUK do a January sale? I have only known of this site since the middle of the year)

what id do.

(assuming the GTX260's scale fairly well in SLi (Havnt looked))

I would wait till January for the release of the AMD new CPU's.
Would think that it would drop the price of the Intel i7 down and also offer good performance.

if you remove the peripherals it's around 2100..

Although tbh I would get 2xsamsung f1 320GB and raid them. No way I would spend £200 on a hard drive.
Or wait and see how the new ocz ssd perform and get a samsung f1 as a data drive.

Why spend so much money on the oc palm edition motherboard and the velociraptor when the money could be spent on a nice non tn monitor instead like the Hazro 24inch or even the dell 2707wfp.

Edit: just noticed the normal p6t is only slightly less and out of stock but point still stands on the hdd.

SAS drives are very noisy seeing as they run at 10000 - 15000rpm and are designed for server racks located where no-one will care about noise. If you only need 300gb then just get the 300gb raptor drive, the drive is small form factor (attached to a massive heatsink to fit normal sized bays) so it is relatively quiet and it will give you quicker load times than raiding slower drives due to its quick seek times.
