hi all..
am i right in saying ..too overclock something..(cpu/gpu/ram etc)would possibly cause overheating/damage..slight better performance???if so..why wouldn't you save up a little more or wait .and buy a better model than you first thought???

Because overclocking a CPU that costs £100 to the performance level of one that costs £700 is much more sensible economically. It also doesnt do a great deal of damage if you know what you're doing. Theres also a sense of satisfaction in gettin something for nothing. stick it to the man, oh yeah :p :)

Few examples:

Why spend ~£600 on a top model CPU when you can overclock a £100 CPU to the same level with a bit of inexpensive cooling?

Why spend £100 more on the next model up graphics card for 50mhz clockspeed when you can overclock slightly without issues?

As for RAM, that depends on the system (Intel systems usually gain more from ram overclocking than AMD).

If you stick within sensible voltage limits and realise when your hardware has hit the maximum sustainable 24\7 overclock, you wont have any problems. Keeping an eye on temperatures is also a good idea.

Also you can get faster speeds OCing than money can buy.

Take easyrider, he has a 6600 OCed to 3.6ghz, the fastest conroe availible to buy atm is running at 2.93ghz. It'll be a while before Intel release a model that is at 3.6ghz to start with.
