right i got all the parts yesterday. fitted them all in and wired it all up but ran into a problem. it will not get past the POST, it beeps 3 times which in the book for the motherboard says its for the vga but i reseated it and still nothing. it seems lots of people have been having this issue and the strange double boot where when you turn it on it starts to boot then goes off and comes back on. really does take the **** this, anyone suggest anything before i go get a hammer and try fix it that way

A month ago an i7 was overkill, but now an i7 Sandy Bridge is suggested and nobody bats an eyelid?

right all up and running and writing this from the new pc. a tad faster than the old p4 just doing some updates and installing drivers.

the problem was that i left one power supply lead off the graphics card.

does anyone know how i can transfer files from mi old ide hdd to the new one?

You can get IDE to Sata adapters, although I've had limited success with them. The other alternative is an external caddy connected by USB.
