So, 3 of us signed up a few days ago for this. Looks like we just missed out on a first round place, but think we should be near the top of the waiting list, so fingers crossed!

We were looking for a challenge. Something fun, something dangerous, something the whole community can support us and follow us in. And something for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust charity, something very close to us.

Our employer has said that if we get accepted, then they will purchase the car and let the chief mechanic at it for a month to prepare it, as well as some suppliers promising to sponsor us for a good few grand.

Has anyone done this before?

Did it this year (you'll LOVE IT! do keep us updated!) but did it with http://www.charityrallies.org/ rather than the Mongol Rally. Seriously consider doing it via the Charity Rallies if I was you, I had a place offered on the "official" rally but made the call to change and I couldn't have been happier that I did!!

My reasons...it's like £350 cheaper, no money goes to a business all to charity and you can take something a bit more appropriate which maybe useful to the people of the country which enables you to do more cool stuff and see more interesting sights in Mongolia as well! And you can sign up without having to fight for places.

What route/how long are you going to do it in?

Oww, best tip in hindsight: Get a proper GPS and get the maps you want from http://www.smellybiker.com/ it's a small subscription but the maps are very good and you'll kick yourself if you didn't believe me! we did after playing with another rallies GPS, no matter what maps you take they won't be accurate enough for Mongolia (hell even with the GPS you'll most likely get lost...you'll just notice sooner!)
