Moniter Brightness on CSS

Hi there, i recently stared playing Counter Strike Source and it seems my moniter is really too dark, i have turned my moniter brightness all the way up and i have turned the gamma to full on the game, i have also right clicked the desktop > propeties > settings > advanced and turned everyhin full and on my desktop it goes very bright, but nothing seems to change in game, i basically cant see anything when i go into a tunnel, any help would be great.

p.s. it seems to be least bright when im in game... (out of game if the brightness is full then its really bright)

My moniter is a 17" CRT it is called a Gateway EV700 and i havnt installed drivers for it, could u point me in the right direction, and yet i have went into that advanced pannel u mentioned and turned up game gamma, still get the same thing.
