i really dont know what is going on at the moment , all of a sudden the moniter goes off before windows xp login screen ,but in safe mode i can get past this. i am starting to think its the gfx card which is a
geforce 7900 gto which cost a lot
the onboard gfx works fine in normal mode ,
any ideas on what i can do to fix this .
thanks

Have you set a resolution or refresh rate that your monitor doesn't support in normal mode?

Uninstall your graphics drivers in safe mode, then when you boot into normal mode you'll be in plain VGA mode and it should work.

yes ive tried to unistall the drivers in safe mode then it lets me in to normal mode but soon as you see the nvida logo and press next , the moniter goes off like its on standby , then if i reboot straight from this moment it dosent get the login screen and stays with the moniter on the orange light to stanby mode

good thinking i will try that now as i dont have that option in safe mode

right i am now in normal mode with no gfx card drivers installed
windows says vga controller found etc...
but in the moniter refresh option from advanced it just says
use hardware default settings and is greyed out

What happens when you reinstall the drivers? It just kills the output?

you have to pay for that ,
right update !
from the f8 menu on boot i seen Enable vga mode
now i am in that mode but its in 8bit colour mode , if i change to 16 or 32 bam the moniter goes off in orange light mode , if i change the refresh rate bam the mointer goes off in orange light mode , i am going to do a fresh format on a 80 gig maxitor so then i know no old drivers or anything is getting the way
