Hi,

I'm currently trying to find out if I would be able to buy just a monitor and then a PS3 and be able to play them together without actually having a PC?

Well only thing I have thought about what I won't have is sound... anyway would I be able to get sound with just buying a monitor and no base PC? Maybe having to buy a certain type of speakers what can fit into the back of a monitor, but if I can then I don't know where to buy them from and what type? I also would make sure the back of the monitor can take HDMI.

Now I need heeelp:rolleyes::p Can I or can I not buy just a monitor, PS3 and play them with sound? Don't really want to buy a monitor with built in sound.

Thanks

Yeah they should work together so long as you have the right cable for them. And I'm afriad I'm not too hot with them. But I know it can definately be done without a PC with very little effort.

Thanks. Only thing what's confusing me is how to get sound, unless I bought a monitor with build in sound which I really don't want to do.

Plus this monitor would be the monitor I use when I build the rest of the PC when I have more money.

You can do it easily. If you get a monitor that supports HDMI then that's simple but you can also use a non-HDMI supporting monitor as long as it has a DVI port that supports HDCP. You'd then just need an HDMI to DVI cable which costs very little.

As for the audio, that's easily taken care of. You can use the standard AV out cable supplied to just output sound or even the optical port if you have an amp that can take it.

The standard AV cable would give you left/right RCA jacks you can use for sound. So this way you can hook them up to a stereo's line in jacks, or get an RCA female to 3.5mm headphone jack female cable and plug standard PC style speakers into there. This is the cable I mean:

Thanks but I'm more confused now:rolleyes:

Can you explain the Sound ways again or like show me a picture of a diagram showing what would need to be done or show me an example of what type of speakers I would need to buy?

Have you any idea about which monitor you are thinking about buying? It would be easier if we could see what the monitor is capable of to give you more info on what you need to do.

I'm not too sure I was hopeing you lot would be ale to come up with a monitor. The speakers I would buy would be http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SP-032-LG so if while having that added you could think of a monitor what doesn't push the budget over £300 but abit less.

I was looking at either http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...9W 24" Widescreen True HD LCD Monitor - Black

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...Widescreen True HD LCD Monitor - Glossy Black

But remember it would need to be good for games.

HDCP remember?

I was only looking for monitors with HDMI on them:p

But even though the monitor doesn't have a HD port and you use the connector thing will the picture still come out as HD?

Well what other monitor could I consider what would be good for playing PS3 on?

im not sure really....i tried my ps3 on my sammy 226bw and it looked pretty good..(dvi connection).
but im fairly sure u need a hdcp compliant monitor(which the sammy is).
