Hello I currently have a 24" HP 1920 x 1200 Monitor which is not brilliant for gaming
and what to upgrade to a better 24" or preferably larger 1920 x 1080 (yep 1080p)

I've been looking at the iiyama prolite b2712hds 27" for quite a while.

the reason i want it bigger is because i sit about 1m+ away from my monitor (custom made desk) and i find that the text and icons etc are a bit small, not that my eyes are bad.

my concern is because the pixel size is bigger that i will loose quality, but from the reviews i've read (that are good) and the distance i sit i'm hoping this will not be a problem

So my questions are
would the distance i sit be ok for this 27" 1080p monitor
and has anyone upgraded to a 27" and how do you find it.

Thankyou for any help as i just can't make up my mind

edit; this is the distance i sit

Up until December I had a pair of Dell G2410s (24", 1080p) and had had them for a year. I decided I'd prefer a single larger screen in place of the dual screens (I realised, dual screens made sense when the ratios were 4:3 but with 16:9 it's just silly; dual screens are for productivity which for me means coding, i.e. text which at best will fill half the width of a 1080p widescreen, and with a single screen I can comfortably arrange two sources files side by side anyway).

Back to the point, I replaced the pair with a single Iiyama ProLite B2712HDS 27". I'm very happy with it, both in terms of the switch from dual 24" to single 27" and with the particular choice of monitor. I too was concerned about the increased pixel pitch but unless you look really closely (within 15cm or so) you can't see any difference. I'm normally 50cm away from it when working.

Cheers. thanks for your help
Pixel Pitch was my main concern, and also that you may have to apply more AA in games for it too look as smooth (don't know if this is true, but it sounds logical)
but Iiyama ProLite B2712HDS it is

I have just bought the similar ProLite E2710HDS -
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-065-IY
It has a very simple tilt-action only stand, which might be a pain for some....

This was bought to be a multimedia monitor, to supplement a far more expensive one for photographic work.

It is a TN panel, viewing angles are limited, and there is some bleed, but I am staggered at how good it is as a cheap, big all-rounder - and no dead pixels. Like Mr. Brightside has said, I too was worried about pixel-size, but at a viewing distance of 1m. you should be just fine, and the size is great for gaming. Get too close, and the sheer width of the thing means that you lose sight of the edges though....

You can fit 2 x A4 size docs next to each other with ease, but for a general "office" monitor I would have preferred the Iiyama ProLite E2607WS 26" because of the 1920x1200 screen.

There is a Viewsonic equivalent that I can't comment on, but a quick Google on the Hans-G equivalent was enough to put me off - seems it's great if you get a good one.

Anyway, I would happily buy the ProLite again. :D

I have decided to go for a cheapish 24" screen. Though my trusty 19" WS is still going ok, I decided to go larger. My desk is not that deep and anything bigger is to big to sit in front of. Im only going dual screen because I don't want to get rid of the 19". I also have an older dell 19" (max res around 1028x762) and could go triple screen but that would just be daft. I do find 2 screens useful at times. I work from home and sometimes while working on one screen, I take a break and do something on the other. Not having to alt+tab between screens soon becomes a luxury you wonder how you did without.

I was thinking about the cheaper 27" Iiyama but i wanted the adjustable stand.
Thanks everyone for your help.
Feel totally confident that i have chosen the correct monitor
Just got to wait 2 weeks until i get paid as i just had an eye test and the glasses and contacts cost me the money i was going to buy the monitor with (had to have designer)
Hopefully it will be on offer between now and then :)

The "adjustable" stand that came with the E2710HDS really reminds you that these are budget monitors.

Mine is currently sitting on top of a desk mounted shelf, and needs no further adjustment. I don't treat this as a "pro" monitor, so that compromise is OK.

It seems that the cost, for a non-pro user, of buying the official adjustable stand version is very steep, but then I am not asking a lot of the monitor, because an Eizo it aint ;-).

Anyway, I'm sure you will enjoy whatever version you choose :-)

I phoned up Iiyama and asked them about the differences in their range.
They told me that if you look at the model code e.g E2407SHD -B1, you can determine the features. The prefex B denotes an earlier model than those prefixed with E, then there are 4 numbers, the first two are the screen size (diagonal) and the next two indicate the type of stand, 09 tends to indicate an adjustable stand, xx07 are generally fixed stands. -B1 on the end denotes a black bezel.

They do so many variations.
I also googled iiyama and clicked on the very first result at the top of the screen. This took me to a site where I could select my model size, and it showed me all the variations of that size and had all the technical info. (Their prices are no way near as good as OC and i would only use them for data gathering).

But there you can see that there are some screens that have different model numbers but are identical in every way except for the stand.

I would suggest having a look, compare the stats and then make a decision based on that. (come back to OC to buy it though).

TomTom, in your link they are comparing an older screen (the model prefixed with B) with a newer screen (model prefixed with E). My be that they changed some technology when testing. I wonder just how neutral or stacked the tests are.

Still think the best way is to go to a store that will let you play with the unit and see for your self.

Nice info,
I will buy at overclockers, always do
I can't view the units because i'm so rural (broadband still only 3mb here, sucks)
So i'm just gonna have to chose one.
I think il be happy with either
Thanks so much for your help

The nice girl i spoke to told me that the B's are earlier and the E's are their later models. If you can't get to see one, there is no harm in talking to someone who supplies then, maybe they can provide better answers.
