Hi guys

Looking at upgrading monitor & then possibility of 3d gaming

My current set up
AMD FX6300
Radeon HD 7800 Graphics Card
8gb ram

Have a fairly old Hyundai N220w 22” monitor (1680 x 1050 5ms 700:1 D-Sub, DVI-D) ….. will I see much 2d gaming difference on games like the latest Tomb Raider if I buy a 24” Asus VG248QE?

Also with my current set up & if I buy the Asus monitor, is there the opportunity to play 3d games? What additional kit would I need?

Thanks in advance
Saint

3D gaming is not that great. I really don't like it. I think it was a fad a few months ago but it never really caught

In my experience, most games don't benefit much from 3D mode. I'd say the game that probably popped out of the screen for me the most in 3D mode was Sonic Generations. The main benefit of a 3D monitor imo is 3D movies.

Meh to those that say 3D gaming is pointless!!!

I personally love 3D gaming and it is one of those things you love or hate.

The bigger the screen, the better it looks and I have gamed on 3 120Hz 27" surround monitors and it was jaw dropping. The bezels was the pain but still looked awesome. Ideally you would want a strong GPU and CPU and a decent monitor. I can't comment on AMD, as I have never gamed on AMD in 3D but this is something that nVidia do well.

Something like a 670 upwards will work and there is plenty of monitors to choose from. If going for nVidia, you will need to get the 3D emitter and glasses and my advice is to try it before you buy it if possible.

If you go 3D, you should play Tomb Raider/Trine 2/Portal 1+2/The Witcher 2/Batman (all of them) to name but a few.
