Monitor Advice Needed

All,

I've been looking to get a new monitor for a while now. Use is split between productivity, gaming and TV.

I had originally been quite keen on the 34" (3440*1440) ultra wide screen monitors, however another option could be 1440p on either 27" or 32".

One issue is I will sometimes have my Xbox One in use with the monitor, which obviously does not support 21:9 aspect ratios. Does any one have experience with this? I assume it would display as 16:9 with large black bars on the side, however would there be any performance or quality issues?

All monitor suggestions and advice welcome.

Thanks in advance.

As far as I'm aware, it would function the same as any 16:9 screen, simply with black bars at the side. There would be no performance or quality issues, although isn't the Xbox limited to 1080p anyway, so it would upscale? I'm not sure how that works exactly, but basically it wouldn't be any different to a 27" 16:9 2560x1440 screen... just you'd be able to utilise the full 21:9 aspect on most PC games and other PC applications.

Can't speak for the 3440x1440 panels but I have a 21:9 2560x1080 Dell and it works fine with 1080p (or lower) tablets/phones, games consoles, etc. though yeah you do either have to put up with black borders left and right or horrid stretched aspect ratio as the other alternative. Its not too bad though I've used it for watching movies off my tablet and wasn't too bothered by the borders.

Thanks for the responses guys. I think I'm leaning back towards the 21:9 monitors again.

It is a shame the AOC and Dell 34" competition won't be arriving for a couple of months.
