I have an old set of Monitor Audio MR4 floorstanding speakers in Black Oak (had them about 6 years now) and just have a little itch for a bit of an upgrade. I saw a pair of Monitor Audio Bronze 500 floorstanding speakers for £499, which compared to other outlets is very cheap (places like Peter Tyson / Richer Sounds are nearer £1k). I was wondering if a pair of these, with the additional dolby atmos speakers on top, would be a nice little upgrade? I've not used any sort of height / ceiling reflection speakers before. Are they a fad, or would I notice them?
My AV Receiver is an old Denon AVR-X2400H but on checking the manual it apparently will support these additional height speakers, albeit I can't enjoy dolby atmos on anything less than a 5.1 setup. But apparently I can still use DTS:X with them. In the future, I could upgrade the AV Recevier to say the Denon AVC-X3800H. That would allow dolby atmos on less than a 5.1 speaker setup, as long as "speaker virtualisation" is enabled, according to the manual.
So I guess to summarise, would I see any perceivable benefit / audio enjoyment at the moment from adding on the height speakers to a simple stereo Bronze 500 setup? And also I guess, any first hand experience of the Bronze 500 floorstanding speakers?
