As title really, I have silver 1s as sides and backs and kef r50's for atmos. Should I replace my older rx6 floorstanders with something from the newer silver range which my silver 1s are from? I was looking at the silver 8 as I listen to a lot of music as well as films.

Ta :)

Best think to do would be get a demo somewhere, if they don't have RX6 any more then try to take yours with you, as it's very difficult to judge speakers in a different room.

As they are a newer model then they may well be slightly improved, also they are bigger so may provide a bigger sound.

If you're happy with the MA sound then they might be a good choice, or look for used Gold series which would provide even more improvement for your money.

I had RX6 and upgraded to the Kef R series, they were much better all round. I now run PMC OB1i which are a step up again.

law of diminishing returns as always with these types of upgrades.

we cannot tell you if it's worth it to you. you will perceive and judge value for money completely differently.

IMO you would be better off saving up more and going for a much larger upgrade however depends on what you can get for your current set and how much your looking to spend on the new one.

what is your current set lacking that makes you want to upgrade?

I have BX6's which are a bassier version of the RX6 with BX6 focusing more on bass and the RX6 more on sound quality.

You already have a good set of floorstanders IMO, you will be paying lots for very little improvement.

Uou may be right :) I just took off all my speaker grills and got a nice improvement for free LOL.
Dunno why removing made the speakers sound better though.

I have the RX8's and the new Silver 8 are not all that much of a step up in honesty. It is of course very much down to you and ideally would ask to see if you can home demo against what you have so that you can compare in real terms but I just personally replace the RX6 for Silver 8's.

I would have/should have gone with the RX6's though as the RX8's are a little bass heavy without the correct amplification and room size tbh but they looked too damn good and got them for the same price.

Edit: I have never used the speaker grills cause it all looks much better with them off haha.

I remeber demoing the silver 8 years ago, I demod

GS10
Silver 6
Silver 8

I thought the 8 whilst they looking great, huge and imposing actually sounded the worst. The bass was just to much for my room and they sounding horrible and boomy.

I bought the GS10.

You have a lot of good equipment there. It's not easy to upgrade or cheap. I would stick with it. Speaker technology isn't a fast moving market. Just because something is newer doesn't mean it's any better.

When upgrading the centre speaker should match the fronts so your looking at upgrading 3 not just the 2 floorstanders.

Those upfiring atmos speakers are certainly interesting. How do you rate them? A lot of purists don't like them but I don't like ceiling speakers so it's an option I've been thinking about for the future.

I cant have celling speakers so the up firing modules were my only option. I went for the r50s as they seemed to be the best in reviews and spec wise. The sound seems to envelop you a lot more and 3d sound positioning is wicked in atmosmovies like Minions :D
All I had to do is tweak the volume and crossover of the r50s to get them to sound really good. This is on a Marantz sr7010 reciever.

My Marantz sounds excellent to me:) Its a big improvement over my Onkyo. I may demo a Yamaha next time I upgradethe receiver. Wont be for quite a while as the Marantz is really good on features:)
