Ok, so my current 27" 2560x1440 IPS monitor is on the blink (backlighting flickering) so I'm in the market for a new one.

  • Currently using an NVidia GTX670. My system is due for an upgrade but that will be later in the year
  • I play mainly RPG, the occasional single player FPS (my days of competitve play are over).
  • I currently have a second good quality monitor - the flawless HPLP2475w 1900x1200 - so the monitors are mismatched.
The question is - do I just replace the failed monitor or do I get a super wide monitor to replace both and sell the HP on Gumtree or MM?

I've narrowed my choice down to two monitors:

The cheaper option - around £500:
DELL S2716DG - 2560x1440

The not so cheap option but I can get it down to £700 via a Quidco purchase:
SAMSUNG CF791 - 3440 x 1440

Although I play games most night, both my wife and I also have to use the monitor working from home - she's an accountant and I provide IT support on an on-call rota. So a decent monitor for office work is needed.

So, what do you think?

I'm concerned about a TN panel, even though the Dell seems to get decent reviews.

The Samsung gets amazing reviews for image quality. I'm not too concerned that it's only Freesync even though I'd be sticking with NVidia after the upgrade, as I'd be getting a card fast enough for Adaptive sync to be sufficient.
