Monitor colour intensity

Today i plugged an external monitor to the laptop which meant the resolution of laptop going down from 1280x800 to 1024x768. No problems there.
However, after finishing doing my business with the external monitor i realise the colour intensity on the laptop display had increased somewhat significantly. This isn't really a problem but i'm just curious of what might have caused this, any ideas?

try holding the fn key down and pressing the sunshine keys up and down....its probably just the contrast been adjusted
