Monitor conundrum

Hi,

I have a modest pc, i5 8400 and gtx 1060 8 gig. I'm very happy gaming at 1080p but feel my 24" screen is a bit small so would like to upgrade to 27".

Nearly everywhere I read is that 1080p will look terrible on 27" and that it's recommended to upgrade to 4k. The issue is that my pc will struggle with 4k. So in order to upgrade my screen I need to upgrade my gfx card too which I can't afford.

So I'd like to hear from anyone who thinks gaming on a 1080 27" monitor might be worth it? I'm not a graphics whore at all so maybe it wouldn't bother me?

Thanks for the replies, so I will need a new graphics card for 1440p? And shouldn't waste my time with a 27 inch 1080p monitor?

I mostly game in the evening so reasonably dark room.

Any recommendations on a 27 inch monitor that won't break the bank then? I'm considering selling my gtx 1060 and getting something that will be able to run 1440p.
