So I am waiting for the Dell A01 revision on the 24" model...

But also considering either:

Hazro HZ24W 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor...looks good to me?

OR for that price a cheap 26" monitor...what would you do for 450 pounds or less?

Well, the Hazro is very good (I've got one), but if you want to spend less there's also the Hyundai PVA monitor (same panel as used in the older Dell 2407, therefore lacking the problems of the 2408).

Hazro benefits from being an S-IPS panel, so viewing angles are the greatest of all four lcd techs. Black levels are not as good as on *VA panels though, so if you watch a lot of films it may not be the type of panel for you (hence why most LCD tv's are PVA panels).

Personally, having owned a S-PVA (Hyundai) and (now) S-IPS (Hazro), I would choose the S-IPS every time. Not because i'm a colour accuracy freak, graphics editing, photography or whatever else either!

There are still some kind of viewing angle issues with S-PVA it seems, I think they're called 'Gamma Shift', where solid colours start to look like gradients, and 'Black Crush', which is where when viewed head on you loose quite a lot of black detail, and at a slight angle it returns!

I was worried about the black depth on S-IPS, but it turns out that doesn't bother me that much at all :) I'm sitting in total darkness now with a solid black backdrop and to me it seems only very, very slightly greyish. S-IPS seems to do a lot of things right, in my opinion!

As ever, YMMV I guess :)

It probably doesn't help that I have my monitor set slightly darker than calibrated as it reduces my eye strain when coding (hence 100% accurate colours are not a necessity for me). This however makes very dark colours in films a bit muddy. With proper calibration it should be fine for movie watching.

markiemrboo: any chance you cold watch one of the dark scenes from 28 weeks later and see if you can make things out? Could help the chap make up his mind. The "zig-zag" sniper scene if you've seen the film before.
