Alright All,

So come Jan I am buying a new gaming PC (2 x Nvidia GTX 680 SLI). However one thing I am unsure on is what monitor to get.

What I'm looking for is a monitor that has crisp picture for different genre's of games (FPS, RTS, RPGs Etc). The quality of the images is what I am after.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I am going for a Triple Monitor setup (not a single one)

I'm not entirely sure if the resolution of the IPS would be more beneficial than the 120Hz refresh rate.

The monitor does not need to be 3D as this does not really interest me and would only be an extra feature.

I have been looking at 3 however if better ones are known I'm open to suggestions.

The monitors I have in mind are:

Asus PB278Q 27"

Dell UltraSharp U2711 27"

Asus VG278H 27" TRUE 120Hz 3D

Now there is reasoning behind my choices.

Asus PB278Q 27" (2560x1440 IPS 60Hz)
This monitor has a great resolution of 2560x1440 and I have read that IPS monitor displays are crisp and the picture looks amazing.

Dell UltraSharp U2711 27" (2560x1440 IPS 60Hz)
Same reasoning as the Asus just a choice between the 2.

Asus VG278H 27" TRUE 120Hz 3D (1920x1080 TN 120Hz & 3D)
This monitor doesn't have ability of a high resolution like the other 2 however it makes up for this with 120Hz and 3D capabilities.

Oh I'm not compairing per say, its just options as I'm not all that savvy when it comes to monitors...

The Monitor will be purely for gaming and I forgot to mention that I am going for a Triple Monitor setup (not a single one)

I have seen that 144Hz Asus monitor however it does not come with the 3D pack & glasses so i would have to buy that separately.

To add to that these monitors do only have a res of 1920x1080, however does the 120Hz make up for the fact they don't have a res of 2560x1440

So At the moment I'm looking at getting 2 x 4GB EVGA GTX 680 from the start and adding another one 3 months down the line when funds are there :-), This also includes adding another 1 or 2 monitors (taking it to 3 total).

So for me its a tossup between 120hz or Resolution higher than 1080.

I'm actually swaying towards the Asus VG278H 27" TRUE 120Hz 3D. It doesn't have the top resolution but it does have 120hz.

From what i have found, when buying a monitor you either go for high Hz or High Resolution really and you have to make the choice between which one your after.

Would 2 x 4GB EVGA GTX 680 Be good enough to run the 3 Asus VG278H 27" TRUE 120Hz 3D or would it be best to get 3 of them?

Thankyou for your continued help

The Asus PB278Q 27" does look nice and with a Resolution: 2560x1440 its defo in my list :-) .

What your saying is that if I want 3 monitors at 2560x1440 I will need 3 x 4GB EVGA GTX 680 ? or would 2 be enough.

So i have read quite a bit on "gtx 680 4gb 7680x1440" and from the looks of it, even if i get 3 x 4GB 680s I will still have issues with average 40FPS average, with max settings and AA as they don't have the power to push 7680 x 1440 at 60fps average.

That being said people have also been saying it works, So I'm at a slight wall here lol.

@ Covenantuk, You make a valid point and it seems that's the way i might go, get 3 monitors at 2560x1440 and just add get a 3rd G card if it isnt perfect.

But that being the case I'm now stumped on what monitor I should get lol... Looking for one thats IPS / PLS @ 2560x1440 and around the £500 mark (per monitor). There are a few i have seen.

Asus PB278Q 27"
Dell UltraSharp U2711 27"

Or any other Monitors that can be suggested, I will be getting them in Jan, so release date can be wider :-)

So after much debate and deliberating with myself I think that I have decided to go with the Asus PB278Q 27" as not only does this have top resolution but its an IPS monitor.

Most people I have read reviews by say that they would prefer picture quality over 120Hz.

Wont be for a while yet but will defo let you know, also apparently its not an IPS but a PLS as the screens are designed by Samsung, so I have read anyway :-).

So been reading more into 120hz monitors and now I have been swayed 50/50 again lol.

Resolution is good but when playing FPS and other games wouldn't higher FPS make it smoother therefor making overall game play better.?

Sorry to resurrect such an old post but I was asked on my opinion...

This monitor has been noting but Bliss.

Its well worth the money. I did have 3, but that was a bit overkill at the time (kind of wish I never returned them to be fair lol).

Its big and the image is lush. But personally I don't have the most experience when It comes to monitors.

But the fact its Easily swiveled and adjusted just makes it a dream.

I recommend to anyone looking for a 27" monitor.

Hmm... I haven't noticed any flickering.

This monitor is a PLS and I believe it uses the Samsung PLS technology.

To be honest Its just amazing, Kinda wish I never got rid of my other 2 and they have gone up in price now haha.

Thats a lot of money... For that I would defo go for the Asus.

As I said I highly recommend.

But if no one buys them the price will drop then I can buy 2 more :D
