This has got me scratching my head and i cant find anything on google. I know its an overscan problem but i cant find a slider in catalyst driver for my Radeon 7970. My monitor is curved samsung 32 inch u32R592c resolution is 3840x2160.

Done a bit of digging around and indeed AMD has taken overscan/underscan slider out of there drivers. Great. Could be im using display port?

Cheers yes I've tried enabling and disabling gpu scaling. Don't seem to make a difference.I suspect something happened when I hooked up my ps 4 pro to the HDMI port. But my pc is on the display port. It's annoying. Hopefully I'll get it solved for my 5700xt being delivered next week.

Have a look through your monitor menus, there is quite possibly the same kind of scaling option in there also but from the monitor end rather than the GPU.

PBP mode off? Using PC or AV picture mode?

If you're using Screen Fit picture size in AV picture mode, check the Screen Adjustment menu and make sure your H and V positions are ok.

If those are all ok, check out this thread regarding fixing the same problem on older Radeons - involves hacking around with registry keys, I guess it's a timing issue. Link to possibly relevant thread at https://community.amd.com/thread/184967

Many thanks thats some good info there. I dont use pbp and ive tried in both modes. I'll have another mess around.
