Monitor Flicker - Asus PA246Q

I bought an ASUS PA246Q around 10 months ago. It's a beautiful monitor but on the majority of games I have an issue. The screen will flicker and sometimes even go black for a second. It doesn't happen consistently, I can be playing for hours and it won't do it but then it might start after 10 minutes. There are a few games where it doesn't happen at all, the most recent being Dark Souls (at least the 10 hours I've played it so far). And it only happens in games not desktop applications like web browsing or watching films.

I've recorded footage on my phone so people can actually see what's going on. The first two clips (Darksiders 2) show the issue at it's best (worst??):

I've put up with this while I've been trying to figure out the problem but I'm out of ideas! I thought it might be tied to V Sync or refresh rates as I can sometimes get it to stop by using a custom profile in Nvidia setting the refresh rate to 59, not 60. The settings always revert back to 60 so this doesn't really fix it. I've also swapped monitors with a friend for a few days and the issue didn't happen for him, or for me with his monitor. We also swapped graphics cards with the same result, no issues for either of us so that didn't help to narrow it down.

My system is an i7 2600K clocked by OCUK to 4.6, 570 GTX and 8GB RAM.

Is it just a faulty monitor? Could refresh rates have anything to do with it? If anyone has any ideas than I'd be eternally grateful.

Thank you

It's not ideal! After posting the video I've found others with similar problems so unfortunately it looks like a common issue with the monitor.

It's been doing it on and off since I got it but I've had nothing but trouble with my latest PC build so couldn't confidently say it was the screen that was the problem. This is the last issue I have so would like to get it sorted. I've contacted Asus about it so I'll see what they say.

My quest for the perfect monitor continues!

I thought I'd post an update just in case anyone with the same issue stumbles across this thread.

After doing a little more research people were saying that it was a DVI issue with the monitor so I switched to using the Displayport. I did contact Asus before I made the change and they replied offering a repair. As the monitor is pretty much perfect (except for the flicker, obviously!) I didn't want to risk repair or replacement for fear of playing the pixel lottery. Since I've switched to using the Displayport I've had no issues.

Your not the only one to report this. I have seen this problem crop up in various places on the web.
