As the title suggests I'm looking for a high end gaming monitor for both my Xbox One and PC, I currently have a BenQ XL2720z which is amazing however the colours just aren't what I would like considering the price.

I've been looking at the Asus MG279Q which ticks most of the boxes for gaming and it's an IPS panel.

The monitor itself is new and there aren't many reviews out there except for one on tftcentral (which is very promising)

Does anyone have any experience with this monitor?

Are there any other monitors that you would recommend and why?

Thanks :D

I still have a xl2720z lying around and the colours are as accurate as IPS pretty much. Not sure how you have it set up or what preset you fine tuned but the monitor is extremely capable when set up correctly for both console and PC.

An example of the calibrated colours.

Roughly the same after my calibration but used B40, C42, standard, user, 100 90 93 and gamma 3. Obviously different monitors are slightly different after calibration.

What is it about the colours you don't like? I calibrate all my monitors whether TN or expensive IPS and as they are all good monitors they all more or less are accurate at sRGB colour space as ypu can see from the benq above. Some IPS will really oversaturate the 100% colours which means they are not that accurate in that regard but if you like your colours oversaturated then IPS is where you are more likely to find that although not always it depends on the monitor. Some TN can be very accurate but may be slightly undersaturated at 100% colours or some not but unless you side by side compare all good quality monitors when set up properly will look near identical as they cover the sRGB space fairly accurately.

My BenQ is sat next to a Dell U2515H which looks amazing picture quality wise but even before that it was sat next to a BenQ RL2455HM and even that looked better colour wise compared to the XL2720Z.

I've played with the settings quite a lot to try and find the sweet spot but I'll try the settings you suggested and see how it is.

So after a little playing around with the settings I've managed to get it looking pretty well balanced although the reds don't look as good compared to my tv or Dell monitor.

Mine is B20, C50, standard, 100, 90, 93, sharpness 6 & gamma 4, I did change the hdmi rgb to 16~235 which made the colours look a lot better however this made the dark areas too dark. Maybe if I use the FPS setting using the above (except gamma as it's locked) and play with the black equalizer setting.

Even though I've managed to get it looking better I'm still tempted to buy the Asus MG279Q

You wouldn't happen to be using Nvidia card by any chance?

I recall people mentioning they need to manually set RGB to full range at the driver panel.

I am yes, I'm using the MSI GTX 970.

For pc gaming I use B71, C53, standard, 100, 98, 96, sharpness 5 & gamma 4 which look really good and I've not needed to change anything in the control panel but when I use those setting for the Xbox it looks terrible, even with the settings I mentioned above it still looks under saturated.

I found this not sure if it's any use to you.

I got a feeling your manually calibration for the monitor settings in attempt to make it look better on the Nvidia output is possibly what make the Xbox output look terrible on the same setting.

I actually use the DVI port so I've not had that issue.

I've changed the settings on my Xbox to RGB 16~235 and the same with my monitor, I've then used B40, C42, standard, 100, 90, 93, sharpness 7 & gamma 5 similar to what @VEGACORTEZ suggested and it is by far the best in terms of colour accuracy I've had so far, whilst it's still not as good as my IPS panel I am pleasantly surprised by how good it is for a TN panel.
