Monitor for console gaming only

I strongly suggest against going for that monitor - it simply isn't that good considering its price. For your uses I would go for this monitor instead.

May I ask how you will be routing the sound out of the PS3?

The LG W2486L is no better than monitors costing around £160. It is extornionately over-priced and doesn't offer anything particularly premium in the way of image or build quality. If you do want to stick with 24 inches and want something that is energy efficient, handles colours well and offers good connectivity for consoles you should look at the Samsung BX2450 that is on offer for under £200 at the moment. The build quality is beyond anything else at this price.

Personally i choose the Dell U2311H because of the better viewing angles. Not sure if you need the better angles as that depends on if it is just solo gaming, or multi-player gaming.

There's no HDMI port on the U2311H though. Although if he wanted to connect both the PS3 and Xbox 360 to it at the same time, he could get a HDMI switch and then a HDMI > DVI cable for about £25 altogether.

Then you'd have to split out the audio from each console as the U2311H doesn't have an audio out either (you can get the Dell soundbar, but it's going to be crappy).

It's a good monitor for PC gaming, but probably too much hassle for consoles.

Considering your budget the best option for sound is probably to buy a nice little set of 2.1 PC speakers along with the Samsung BX2450 mentioned by PCM2. This monitor has a stereo 3.5mm audio out connection that takes the sound from the HDMI to pass through to some PC speakers.

Some speakers like this will do well and won't break the bank.

I didn't pull the BX2450 recommendation out of thin air. It offers superior build and image quality to the P2450H. It used to cost £240 which was significantly more than the P2450H's £170 at the time. Now the prices are more in line the BX2450 is a wiser choice. It is still marginally more expensive than the P2450H but for the difference in quality it is more than worth it. They are both good choices though so don't feel hard done by if you prefer the P2450H's looks and want to go for that instead.

The BX2450's little brother gets a very good write-up here (courtesy of PCM2 :)). Also, the BX2450 has dual HDMI inputs - so this will make connection of two HD games consoles easier, especially for the sound.

I recently bought a Viewsonic VX2260WM from another retailer. And it is amazing for XBox and PC, watched The Dark Knight Bluray on it and it looked better than my uncles new Bravia! COD4/MW2/Halo look utterly amazing on it, never seen them anything like i have on this beast.

This is also highly reccomended on the MLGpro Forums for lag free majiggaz but lag or no lag its amazing.

I have read your review of the BX2350 (which I appreciate), but the Cnet reviews had a couple of negatives about it, except the OSD:

"...very noticeable backlight clouding, low vibrancy in games,"
"we still recommend the PX2370 overall, thanks to its lack of backlight clouding and better designed OSD array."

Blacklight clouding... well do you feel that it is low enough it's not noticeable in normal use? It doesn't sound like a small problem in the CNET review though.
Low vibrancy in games is probably not only a bad thing - as they wrote it's because it has more accurate colors :P

Well, the PX and the BX can battle it out, but about the XL 2370 the only negatives, as CNET sees it, is its lack of ergonomic features and its wobbly base.
Also if you look at the contrast levels in your review on it, it seems a lot better than the BX... :)

Sorry only just saw this post. In our review we also commented on the vibrancy issue (quite extensively actually). The degree of backlight clouding depends on the individual unit. I have yet to come across a TN panel of this size that doesn't suffer from this to some degree. On the unit we tested:

"Raising the brightness above the 40% level highlights a problem that is most noticeable at 100% brightness; slight excess backlight bleedthrough. We say slight because it is noticeable in an entirely black scene but didn’t manifest itself as a major problem throughout our ‘real world’ testing. The bleedthrough is particularly evident at the bottom of the monitor, although it affects the black levels throughout the screen giving them a slight purple tinge. The black point and contrast ratio suffer a bit because of this."
