hi all.

I am looking for advice upon a monitor but the most important thing on the list is i will be connecting up my macbook for graphic design work on illustrator and photoshop, indesign etc.

I will also be gaming with games like BF3, Fallout3, Skyrim etc.

Also i LOVE LOVE LOVE my films and tv so it stands to reason if its good enough for games and esign its good quality for film watching as well.... right? lol

Anyways long story short and my main question...

What monitor should i buy thats great for all the above?

I have a budget of £250

sorry mate i dont have a calibrator. i see the response time on those monitors are 5ms, and i realise it isnt the be all end all but would this effect anything vision wise I.E. worse than a 1ms response time?

its a lot to take in for a monitor. i was tempted to go for a 4K monitor if i save up the extra £200 but i think its too early to invest into 4K as maybe some of the monitors are great but when it comes down to it maybe in a couple of years i could get one for cheaper and perhaps upgrade and it also may even be better spec wise as they maybe have then fixed bugs and issues etc. But im thinking aloud here so im probably talking crap lol anyways im trying to settle on one at the moment and thanks guys for the in depth info on everything.

I have a mac here and reason for the external monitor was for the mac to connect to it and then that was it really. I could work away on the larger screen for longer without using the smaller mac screen even though it simply is a amazing display as its the retina macbook pro.

That's fine, they're not everyones cup of tea.

I'll let you in on a secret (sshhh! ;)) if you're going 27", you want 1440p. 1080p will loose its prettiness. I came from a 1080p 24" to a 1440p 27" and it's incredible. The resolution is far better.

haha cheers mate. so i think i am going to go with this monitor here

i think its a good price and reviews have all said its great.
so whats everyones opinions

il take your advice and say i really like the Iiyama Prolite X2783HSU-B1 27". Reviews say no ghosting even though its a 4ms monitor... what you guys think? Im liking the price also and with this calibration can i do it myself?

so lets say i stretch my budget to the Acer K272HUL 27" Widescreen LED Gaming Slim Bezel Flicker FREE Monitor as apposed to Iiyama Prolite X2783HSU-B1 27" AMVA Widescreen LED Monitor. Whats the pros and cons of each do you guys feel?

I might wait longer and save and get the Acer one as it ticking the boxes for me spec wise.... but justify it to me as appose to the other monitor lol

I'm confused. Are you the SLIGHTEST bit interested in a monitor that's useful for graphics and colour sensitive work, because NONE of the monitors you've listed are remotely optimal for that, except for the K272HUL, and even that wouldn't be the best choice. They're all more geared for gaming. If that's your interest then no problem, but you did title this topic "monitor for gaming & graphics". The Q2770PQU that Nexus mentions would be a great choice. You say you're not in love with the 21:9 LG, but that also would be a great choice and good for both gaming (more immersion than 16:9), and productivity for graphics work, plus it's an IPS screen so great viewing angles and colour reproduction. :)

indeed mate i was totally limiting myself just for money reasons is all. But it makes more sense as you say to go for a monitor that is going to fit my needs. after all that is why i started this thread to find out. sorry been a totally wally on this topic ive been going back and forth in my head from one to the other and i just couldnt make my mind up. i think the AOC Q2770PQU does really seem like the best colour orientated monitor for money and for graphics.

sorry about any of the stupid sounding posts i put up guys!

very nice i have to admit i never looked at it that way. I feel though in terms of its form factor though for my current desk space i dont feel it would fit all that well horizontally. I really think though i have narrowed it down thanks to you all and i think its going to be between the Q2770PQU and the S27A850TS in time when i get enough cash

hi me again back to annoy you all lol

anyways settling in on the Samsung Monitor but before purchase i see that the Samsung S27A850TS has no solid reviews and it doesnt show up on samsungs website all i get is S27A850T not TS. Is this a stupid question?

Also is the S27A850TS out of stock or something as it states ETA: Overdue?

anyways seen this other monitor by samsung which is the S27A850D. Also here is a review for it.Would this be anything to go by when judging the S27A850TS?

Question is really... is the S27A850TS a new updated version of the S27A850D or are they totally different?

think people have it in their head and perhaps that is what they are thinking of much like myself. "oh thats 5ms so thats gonna be crap" but you are right it really isnt. TFT central are great wish they would do more reviews sometime on samsung monitors

have you read through that whole article nexus18 upon the samsung monitor? apprently ocuk are signing off this del with samsung to get these monitors at such a reduced price and then think i seen gibbo say "samsung made too many" hence the price

So guys think this is the be all end all of this topic.

At the end of the day, you buy a monitor for gaming or you buy a monitor for graphic design and illustrating.

I think that by using a larger monitor it will allow for my film, tv habits to be satisfied as well as being able to connect via my macbook pro and drag pieces across to it for mor workspace.

Then when i am doing work i might work on the monitor and then choose the colours for my work on my macbook because its retina display is the job for that. whos to say il even use the big monitor much for graphics??

Anyways thanks guys for all the recomendations and advice upon what i should go for its been great. I was overcomplicating things too much and at the end of the day i dont have much cash at the moment so i shall work with what i can afford and then work from there.

any questions?
