Monitor for gaming/ work

Hi all

Current rig:
AMD 7 3700x CPU
Titan Xp GPU
16GB 3600 Ryzen DDR4 RAM
Dell SG

I work in IT and during the day so lots of white and black screens with plenty of Googling and IDEs

My monitor is connected to my 2019 MacBook Pro via HDMI and I switch to DisplayPort when I switch to my main rig. I could run my laptop via USB-C if the monitor supported it.

I like the monitor size, resolution and refresh rate. I don’t like the colour accuracy, contrast and viewing angles.

For the past couple years this setup has been fine, however the time has come to upgrade to a more suitable monitor.

I’m pretty set on a 27” IPS QHD preferably with G-Sync or FreeSync2 (which I believe should provide adaptive sync with my GPU?) but I could go for a widescreen.

Does anybody have any recommendations, please?

Believe I saw a 5% discount on those for first 50 orders on here yesterday
Not a lot but its still something

Set up the LG 27GL850 earlier today, very simple to do. The display settings are very easy to change with the joystick under the monitor.

I followed the TFTCentral guide and installed their ICC profile. First impressions are that this monitor is excellent. The viewing angles, colour accuracy, responsiveness and colour vibrancy are all very good. There is also a distinct lack of any light bleed from the IPS panel. I would say it’s been a huge improvement over the Dell sg2716dg in general, however I’m yet to load up an FPS which will be the real acid test.

For those wondering, my PC detected the monitor straight away so did the Nvidia suite enabling QHD and 144hz G-Sync without any changes needed.

I’m also very impressed with the switching of inputs. For example, once I’m done with HDMI and want to switch to DP, this can be done with two clicks of the joystick OR if one input is not detected it automatically switches to one that is. Trivial feature, but one the Dell didn’t accommodate.

Two negatives so far; the cable tidy which clips onto the back of the monitor is rather bulky and means you can’t push the monitor flush with the wall. So I’ve ditched it for now. Secondly, I have a dead pixel just left of centre. No big deal, hardly notice it. I’ve dropped an email to the retailer anyway. I’d be inclined to keep it due to how good the IPS backlight bleed is on this panel which is probably something I’d prefer to a dead pixel anyways!

TLDR I’m very impressed with the monitor so far, deffo worth a good look if you’re in the market for an IPS QHD 144hz G-Sync compatible monitor.
