Hi all, need a bit of advice...I'm after a new monitor as my 24" NEC is on its way out.

I suppose 27" would be nice, though not essential - good for movies & a bit of gaming on the PS3 (so HDMI would need to be in there). 1920x1200 if 24", higher if 27".

Budget up to about £450-ish, but obviously the lower the better!

Can any one recommend a monitor in particular? Been looking at the Dell UltraSharp U2713HM....

Cheers in advance for any info :-)

Just a thought but as it's going to be used for movies and a PS3, wouldn't a 1920x1080 IPS be better to avoid scaling issues?

Hmm, it did cross my mind but if I got a 24-inch with that res I'd be losing screen estate over the 24" 1920x1200 I have now, and if I got a 27" with that res would it not suffer from the pixels effectively being stretched over a larger panel than it they need - possibly degrading the quality? I only say this because I remember going from a 1280x1024 17" screen to a 19" with the same max res a number of years ago, and the bigger panel looked awful by comparison - slightly washed out, almost blurred.

Valid point about losing screen estate and as for larger pixels, well yes it may not look as pin sharp as your present monitor. However you stated that it is going to be used for movies and PS3, so that may not be an issue, lots of people use a 27" 1920x1080 monitor without feeling they're losing out on picture quality and some people even use larger screen T.V.s. If however you aren't going to lose too much quality with a 1920x1080 image scaled up or are happy using less screen estate displaying a smaller image on a 2560x1440 monitor, then yes go for the higher res monitor.
Your previous experience may have something to do with the difference in monitors as opposed to the screen size, I've used some terrible CRT and TN monitors and some quite good ones and the difference is huge.
