Hi there, I was wondering if you guys could possibly help me regarding potential monitors for a new system build.

As it stands I am intending to couple an i7 930 with a 5870 and around 6GB of RAM. Ideally I would like to have a monitor that could take full advantage of these specs (in games etc) but wasn't any larger than 24".

So far I have looked at the following:

Dell 2209WA (Low res? Only 6ms?)
Samsung PX2370 (Looks pretty good, interested in hearing any opinions)
Iiyama ProLite E2407HDS (Unsure about build quality etc)

My budget is around £250 - £300, i'd probably prioritise a good gaming experience over accurate colours but both are a bonus.

Thanks!

I would try something from 'Belinea' perhaps a 22" - google it and you'll see them . They are a fantastic make - really durable and they always put a lot of attention into making high quality screens that give a nice picture. Otherwise acer are a nice brand - I can't think of a particular model of the top of my head. But i think you won't be dissapointed with the quality of a 'belinea'.

i have a viewsonic 22" atm 2ms response 1920x1080 butmy pc is really bad atm so cant eally tell you how good that is but my 360 looks really nice on it through the hdmi port

With that budget you may as well consider a 120hz monitor espiecally if you like FPS games. Also comes with the benefit of being 3D compatible if that at all interests you.

If you can wait until the weekend I'll have a thorough review of the XL2370 (similar panel to the PX2370) on my site. This should give you a good idea about what to expect from it in games - and it really is a strong panel in this area :).

I have to concur, regarding games. Have held off for years looking for a decent TFT for gaming and finally I have one in the PX2370. Was playing Beat Hazard earlier and my jaw was on the floor. Less spectacular, but equally fast games, were also flawless. Not a hint of ghosting and I'm really really susceptible to it.

Sounds good, i'm not planning on buying anything 'til July so will definitely have a read!

On a slightly different note...Would you guys recommend purchasing a system at the end of July or are there new components/price drops on the way?

I've got that iiyama screen and love it. You've got to be a real colour-nazi to have a problem with it for the price. The build quality is fine, and the picture is good from most angles.

The review is now live on my website (link to website if you click my name). As far as I'm aware there are no spectacular new things coming to slap you in the face in August/September so you should be fine buying at the end of July. :)

Nice in-depth review, I'll definitely be bookmarking your site.

The OP originally mentioned the latest model, the PX2370. Having bought one recently and subsequently found a friend with a calibrator (solving my problem) I have to recommend it even more. I've tried out a crap load of other TFTs over the years in stores or at friends' homes, never really finding one responsive enough for me (I seem to detect ghosting more than others). The PX though, woah, not a hint of ghosting for me in even the craziest of games.

Colours won't be as accurate as an IPS that's for sure, but being colour blind that's really not a problem! However, having since done the calibration others have commented that it looks pretty damn natural to them, though they aren't photographers or pros.

Viewing angles are as you would expect, but being positioned slap bang in the middle I haven't had any issues working or playing, and slight deviations back or to the side don't have any noticeable change. If angle is an issue the PX appears to tilt more than the reviewed XL, and yes it can wobble if you decide to start punching it like in CNET's video ().

Backlight bleed is slightly noticeable on a fully black image on the left middle and left right edges at 100% brightness if you're rather close to the screen, but at the distance I'm at it isn't a problem. Lowering that to around 75% fixes the problem as far as I can see.

Overall, extremely impressed with this piece of kit. Yes, it's expensive, even more expensive than the XL, but it looks even smarter. As PCM2 mentions on his site, there are differences between the XL and PX, but regardless I'd still have no problem recommending this screen.

Thanks for your kind comments. You are spot on with the CNET review - I think any monitor would wobble if you whack it from the sides like they do. The thing with the PX2370 is it's so beautifully light that it takes even less to knock it - but if people are taking out their anger on their monitor they have other things to worry about.

I hope that Samsung will be able to provide a PX2370 for review on my website. I suspect that performance is excellent like the XL2370 but it would be nice to test. I've certainly got no complaints about the looks either.

Thanks that's excellent. I've sent an email to that address which includes some information about the website and a link to the XL2370 review.
