Monitor for Photo Editing

Looking for suggestions for a replacement monitor for photo editing. I currently have a Dell 20" 2007WFP. Very occasionally the backlight starts to flicker, which suggests replacement sooner rather than later!

I won't be gaming on the monitor, any suggestions for around £250 max? Preferably less. Ideally I want something around 24 - 27", I take it i'd be best going for something with 1440p resolution rather than 1080? Much as I'd love a twin screen setup, there isn't enough room for such a setup.

With regards to colour reproduction will I be best going for am IPS panel type, or a VA panel type? I know TN panels have very poor viewing angles.

Dell U2515H is what I use. 1440P, IPS and calibrated. Highly recommend it.

IPS and hi res is what you want.

Hmm... Just noticeable difference I guess.

Color Support:
Color Gamut5 (typical): 91 % (CIE1976), sRGB 99% ( average Delta E of <3)

Reading that review, I think I may have hit a stumbling block already. My system uses onboard graphics (AMD A8-6600K APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics), with only an HDMI / DVI / VGA Dsub connection available... No DisplayPort! However I had been thinking about adding a discrete graphics card to the system, for better performance, so something I'll need to bear in mind...

The U2515H will take an HDMI input. You’d have to check what version your mobo supports but I suspect it’ll be HDMI 1.4 which supports 1440P 60hz.

Sadly the specs for my motherboard (Asus A88XM-A) state this:

- Supports HDMI with max. resolution 4096 x 2160 @ 24 Hz / 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz*1

- Supports RGB with max. resolution 1920 x 1600 @ 60 Hz
Maximum shared memory of 2048 MB
AMD® Dual Graphics technology support *2

So a discrete graphics card may well be on the agenda first.

Or just a dual link DVI to HDMI cable.

Or can’t you just connect DVI to DVI? That’ll do 1440p too.

Except the Dell U2515H only has Display port / HDMI inputs (and so does the more recent U2518D)

Damn, looks like you’re right, and I actually have one.

DVI from your mobo to the HDMI of the monitor would work.

Yes that will work fine!! It's saying 4k at 24hrz.....if it can do dvi 2k at 60hrz I'd be amazed if it doesn't on hdmi
