For some so far undiscorered reason whe I try to launch certain games my monitor is going to standby instead of going to a splash/ loading screen, so far this occurs with L4D and Killing Floor, I can play other source games easily and they run fine, also - crymark and 3dmark benches are running without a hitch, what could be causing this issue?

EDIT: when the monitor goes to standby I cannot get it to resume function and no sound is heard

I used to have a similar issue with an ATI 9700Pro and IIyama monitor when connected via DVI then some games would go blank on the screen.

Seemed to work fine when had the monitor connected via VGA. I even started with both interfaces connected and selecting to display via DVI and would find that if swapped over so that displaying the VGA input on the screen then would get the game displayed.

I would suggest try connecting the monitor via the other DVI port on the 5850 and see if replicates the problem.

Apologies if already tried this.
