Monitor gone kaput

Hello everyone,

My sisters monitor appears to have bit the bullet.

It's a 19" BenQ FP91G+ TFT and about 5 years old or so. When you push the on button the LED flashes green for a millisecond then goes off. The monitor makes no attempt to display anything and the backlight does not come on. I have tried my own power cable on it but no joy.

Is there any possibility of reviving it or is it time for a new one?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

Probably just a couple of capacitors suffering from the plague, crack it open and have a look on the power board for any showing signs of blowing or leaking.

Could be caps, but normally the display will flash on and off then eventually come on. This sequence gets longer the worse the caps get.

Could also be the case that the CCFL's have bit the dust, or the transformer that powers them.

Can you see the image on screen if you shine a bright torch at it?

It's working!

Was just about to take the back off of it and thought I would give it one last shot. Kept pressing the power button over and over 20 times or so and suddenly the green light decided to stay on! Plugged a VGA cable in pronto but no picture. Tried to turn it off but the button had stopped responding so had to pull the mains out. Plugged it back in and voila, working as new.

My only conclusion is that the button was dodgy due to some dust/crumbs/faeries etc.

Thanks for the help though, much appreciated.
