Hey,

I've recently had a little bonus looking to out into a new monitor but I have no idea which to get.

I play mostly Mobo (dota/league)/MMORPG (WoW) occasionally some shooters (csgo)

This will be paired with a 5700XT.

Ideally nothing above £450.00 looking at 4K/1440p with a screen size 27-34 inch. I've seen the same question, 4k 60 Hz Vs 1440p 144hz I'm in the group now.

Is there a huge difference between TN and VA?

TIA

Imho :-

Tn, worst looking of all display types, poor viewing angles but generally fastest response times and easily the best pixel response times (however modern Va and ips come very close)
Ips Great colour reproduction , best viewing angles , poor contrast, suffers from 'ips glow' in dark room environments and panel lottery with back light bleed
Va Good colour reproduction , great contrast, some VA panels suffer from black smearing (slow black pixel response times) so do your research.

With a 5700xt you'll be wanting a 144hz 1440p screen to get the best out of that card, 4k and 60hz isn't worth it.

I bought a Samsung S27H850 27” 1440p 60Hz IPS monitor earlier this year and I am pleased with everything except for the annoying IPS glow when the screen is dark (dark scenes in games).
I keep thinking I should have spent a bit more and got a screen with a higher refresh rate.

Your monitor actually uses PLS panel it's like Samsungs version off an IPS panel;), if you want a screen with decent black levels then you want a VA panel and higher refresh rate, both technologies have there ups and downs though.

Yes, you are correct, I remember now, I just got used to referring to it as "like an IPS panel" and then IPS sort of stuck.
I have been keeping an eye out for a different screen and was considering VA panels.
I am also considering something a bit wider with the same vertical height, possibly a 34" 3440 x 1440 - what are your thoughts?

I can highly recommend a 34" 3440 x 1440 ultrawide monitor as i have a dell / Alienware AW3418DW which is IPS based and 120hz and luckily for me it has no major issues.

You just have to decide if you want a VA panel or to stick with IPS and that will come down to your budget too.

Thanks for your reply, I like the look of that Dell, but it is outside the budget that 'er-indoors would consider reasonable.
If there were two identical monitors (identical other than the panel) one IPS and one VA, would I be correct in saying that the VA panel would be cheaper?

Yes VA panels are generally cheaper and feature at least a 100hz/120hz panel for around £500 mark were a similar priced IPS model would probably just have a 60hz panel.

As you have seen IPS 120hz monitors are not cheap so unless your willing to pay the price VA is the only option.

Thanks for your help, it is much appreciated.
One last question, for a 34" at 3440 x 1440 resolution, would you recommend flat or curved screens?

Well it personal preference really buy my dell is curved and i think its ads to the immersion especially at 34" , i would not go curved at smaller sizes tbh.

My 27" is flat and I think that a 27" curved would be a gimmick, however, I can see that as you get wider, then curved comes into it's own.
I think I will look for a 34" curved with 3440 x 1440 resolution (my son is complaining that his 24" 1920x1200 is too small so he can have my 27" 2560x1440).
Thanks for your assistance.
