All, I'm guessing 99% of you guys are Pc people so I believe you are the best people for advice as I am not gifted technically and usually buy on a salesperson guidance however I have lost out on many occasion.

Please don't beat me up too much with the next question, I am just at the end of the road hence I am here begging for help.

I need to buy a monitor not a TV for my sons console xbox that is practically as best I can have be future proof. As I said I know nothing about refresh rates , picture speeds etc .

So can anyone please give me some guidance as I have spent weeks reading reviews from Google and can't do it anymore .

If its a new console then 4k 120hz is probably as good as you can get.

It really is pick one with 4k and 120hz that you like the look of.

Assuming it's new generation XBox, avoid ultrawide monitors (3440x1440, 5120x1440, etc) as the XBox doesn't support it.

For XBox Series X, 4k 120Hz is the best futureproofing you can do. These are normally expensive - I am not familiar with them to recommend one

XBox Series S doesn't support 4k, so what you need is QHD (2560x1440) 120Hz. My personal recommendation here is the Dell S3220DGF

For console use you would want monitor to have HDMI 2.1, if it's 4K high refresh rate one.
Old HDMI 2 is limited to 60Hz at 4K without chroma subsampling, which is very lossy compression.
But anywy those monitors cost toward £1000, even in 27" size and without HDMI 2.1.

2560x1440 works just fine up to 144Hz on old HDMI 2.
And there's plenty of choises with more affordable prices.
