Hi,
I currently have a very old 17in digimate monitor (1280x1024), which I've been nervous to upgrade because I can't usually afford to have more than a mid-range graphics card (which has to last then several years) and I do like to play games at the highest settings so they look their best. However, I occasionally do a little bit of photo tweaking and its got to the stage where I do really notice how much worse my monitor displays photos than my ipad. So, upgrade time. My budget is more or less £300, but as this is a long term investment I could wait and save a bit more.
However, I'm really confused by the choice - 60/120/144Hz, 1080p (am I right in thinking thats 1920x1080?) or 1440, TN or IPS. I know I want a 24in screen, but I've seen people say not to go with 120/144Hz unless you've got a top end graphics card but that 1440 would be ok. I'd always thought that it was the resolution that taxed cards not the Hz, so now am totally confused. I was thinking about the 24in BenQ because of the low response rate, but then saw people say the colours were really bad so thought photos might look terrible.
Could anyone advise whether with a GTX 560ti (might get upgraded in a few months, but again only to mid-range) I could run games on good-high settings on 120Hz 1920x1080, or whether I should go for 60Hz at 1440? I do game, but usually MMOs, or Skyrim, or single player Farcry 3 type things, so guess I'm looking for a compromise between no blurring and reasonably accurate colours. Also, do people think the BenQ colours would still be a big improvement from an ancient monitor or should I wait until the summer and see what comes out then?
Apologies for the list of questions - I have tried reading around the forum, which has been helpful, but most people seem to have a higher spec system than me.
